Hand-lettering is a Powerful Way to Grow Your Faith!

There are many ways to incorporate hand-lettering into your life, spiritually and practically. The purpose of this journal is to inspire you to reignite your devotional time, to imprint Scripture on your heart, and to help you dig deep into the Word of God through the art of lettering.

The Faith & Lettering Journal is designed to be a safe place to practice prompts, try your hand at different styles, and grow in your lettering skills. You’ll practice the basics of hand-lettering, Bible journaling, sermon sketch note-taking, and have space to write about how these techniques are deepening your walk with God.

Something special happens when you slow down and take time to focus on Scripture in a creative way!

About the Author and Artist: Krystal Whitten

I rediscovered my love of hand-lettering shortly after a spiritual reawakening in my life. As my appreciation for God’s Word grew into a deep love of truth, lettering became the way I could mediate on it.

One day as I worked online at my computer, I stumbled upon a hand-lettered piece of art. It was beautifully done, and I was immediately inspired to try the technique myself.

My first attempt was Exodus 14:14. I remember penciling and erasing, penciling and erasing. The slower process of drawing it and repeating it to myself became a powerful tool for memorization. How exciting that I could do something fun as a means of learning Scripture! Hand-lettering Bible verses became my outlet; it fed me creatively and spiritually. It wasn’t long before I was lettering in my Bible, creating sketch notes during sermons, and encouraging others to join me in the practice. Let’s #LetterForTheLord together!

Just as medieval monks brought the Scripture to life through intricate inked illustrations in handwritten manuscripts, you can now create your own masterpiece of color and design. Copy Scripture as a spiritual exercise or record your own thoughts and prayers on the pages. Your words and art will unite to create a keepsake that will be a treasure for years to come.

Q&A with Ashley {me} from the Publisher

Did you like the art style shown inside the book? Did the art style and the quotes/text in the book work well together?
I honestly L-O-V-E the art styles in all three journals. I cannot draw to save my life so I love how the journals actually teach me how to create the designs. I thought the quotes and text in the books worked perfectly together.

Were the quotes inside the journal inspirational? List one or two of your favorites.
The quotes were genuinely inspirational and my favorite was “He will keep in perfect peace those whose mind is stayed on Him.”

Test the paper thickness with different pens and markers. Did you see any bleed-through?
I was pleasantly surprised with how thick the paper was. I used Crayola washable makers and had no bleed through.

If the journal was teaching an art technique, how clear was the instruction? Was it helpful? Or did you need/want more?
Like I stated above, I am not an artist at all. I felt that the teaching in these journals were very thorough and helped me achieved the designs that I wanted.

Describe how you plan to use the journal or who the journal is for (age ranges, creative types, professions.)
I plan to use the journal during my quiet time with God. I am a 28 year old nurse who is not creative when it comes to drawing.

Are there added features to the journal (pen loop, keepsake pocket, foil or embellishments on the cover)?
Most of the journals did have embellishments on the cover with a pen loop and bookmark.
